Art for Kids was founded in Los Angeles in 1981. Pregnant with her first child, Gail Reiter Sedigh had recently quit her job in the entertainment industry to follow a lifelong passion: children's interior design. She created and painted an alphabet - charming characters forming the letters - and the first AFK product, "Framed Names" were quickly being sold in nearly every high-end children's boutique in the country.
Soon the stores were asking her to expand the line. Gail's husband Bijan joined the Company and brought structure and organization to her frenetic world. The AFK line was expanded to include lamps, mirror frames, toy chests and other nursery accessories. As their family and business continued to grow, they designed a collection of nursery furniture unique in the marketplace. The introduction of the first crib, changer and armoire in 1998 established AFK as a premier source for fine children's furnishings.
Since that first product was produced in their living room, AFK has strived to earn their reputation of unparalleled commitment their clients. Now located in a state-of-the-art factory in 'the OC' , Gail and Bijan are proud to still be intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of their family run business. In 2009, AFK opened their flagship retail store, a stone's throw from where Gail drew that first alphabet.
